What's In My Beauty Pouch

Monday, September 28, 2015

As someone who who is passionate about beauty, I've accumulated quite a lot of makeup over the pass years. One of the ways I've come up with to stay aware of what I already own and to actually use it is to put things in my makeup pouch. Imagine a situation where you are in a rush and you didn't have time to get ready, one of the things you want to bring along is your makeup pouch right? This ensures that you have all that you need and it forces you to use the makeup that you have.

[REVIEW] Too Cool For School Art Class By Rodin

Saturday, September 26, 2015
Hi everyone, you might have seen this bad boy around everywhere recently. It's the Too Cool For School Art Class by Rodin [contour kit?]. I saw it in numerous places but I think what really got me was Ssin's stamp of approval. As I've mentioned in my August Favorites post, I've recently gained a bit of weight - around 10 to 15 - to be exact and I've been using the Clio's Apple Bronzer to contour and make my face look less puffy.  While the Clio's Apple Bronzer makes an quick and obvious difference, this product does not. I will explain why.

Experience Hauling from Sephora Online and What I Purchased

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

One of my sleepless nights lead me to browsing on Sephora. I haven't shopped there in a while because I was noticing a trend - I was never reaching for any of the makeup I buy from Sephora. This is because of two things:

[REVIEW] IOPE Ultimate Hydro Cream

Monday, September 21, 2015
Moisturizers are one of the key skincare products that we use, yet choosing the best one for our skin is a really hard task. Today I will telling you about the cream that I've been using this past year. It's the IOPE Ultimate Hydro Cream. Readers of my blog know that I usually use Korean road shop skincare because I think they're just as awesome as higher end brands. However, I've heard amazing things about IOPE's skincare ranges and decided to give it a try.

[TRAVEL] Busan Tower, BUSAN, South Korea - After Dark

Tuesday, September 15, 2015
Continuing on from my Busan 2014 trip is my trip to Busan Tower. It was really dark by the time my friend and I arrived. It wasn't planned this way but due to the traffic jam that we had experience coming back from Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (here), our plans were delayed by 3 - 4 hours. Skipping dinner, we rushed over here from our hostel. During this time I was hangry due to hunger, but I managed to feel much better after having a Snicker Bar.  In case you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a video to explain.

[TRAVEL] Gwangalli Beach, BUSAN, South Korea

Saturday, September 12, 2015
While browsing through my photos the other day, I realized that I had completely forgotten to post pictures from my trip to Busan in Spring of 2014. Well, better late than never right? I have always enjoyed looking at other people's travel pictures because they inspire curiosity in me. These days I am often home so when I see pictures of new places, I often feel motivated and I think to myself "wow, I never knew such a beautiful place exists. I want to visit there someday". I don't think my pictures are amazing but perhaps they will show you a new area which you've never been to before.

 Enjoy~

[REVIEW] Ryo (Ryeo / Ryoe) Yangnyeongwon Grey Hair Covering Cream 4.0 Deep Brown

Thursday, September 10, 2015
I've been wanting to colour my hair for a while now. Up to this point, I've always used the Mise En Scene Bubble Dye (the one with Shin Min Ah on the cover). I really liked that product because it was affordable, easy to use, and didn't make hair feel like straw. I've always gone for the Brown/ Red colours and I loved having red hair. However, after a few months my hair colour would fade. Usually it just fades to an auburn-ish colour. Recently, my hair colour faded like crazy and I couldn't stand it.

When I went to my local Amore (a.k.a. Aritaum), this hair dye was the only kind they stocked. Even though it's meant for covering up grey hair, I purchased it. I've asked the sales representative if it was okay first. She said because my hair is already coloured, this hair colour will still work but it might fade a little bit. I'm absolutely find with that. I will just have to take more precaution in keeping my hair from fading.

The model on the box is absolutely gorgeous. Even though I know that these pictures are often photoshopped, I still believe my hair will come out just as glossy lol.

100% Traditional Korean Herbal Medicine Ingredients - camellia seed oil, wilfordi root, ginseng, arrowroot root

"Camellia Seed Oil Covers Grey Hair"

"The shine coating care system improves your dry, brittle hair. Yangnyeongwon grey hair covering cream is a hair color dye based on oriental medicine. This contains domestically cultivated oriental medicine ingredients to increase the health of your scalp. In addition, camellia oil nourishes your fragile hair with the nutrients and moisture it needs to give you smooth and shiny hair."

Effect: Darkened hair color

Doesn't it sound awesome? I really believe in oriental medicine so this was a big seller to me. I know dyeing hair isn't great for my hair but this box really sounds like it's as good as it gets. I can imagine that the Camellia Seed Oil will give my hair the glossiness it needs.

On The Package It Says:
"Precautions: Read the insert throughly and understand the instructions before you start. Do not use on eyelashes and eyebrow. It is for use only on hair. If the contents get in your eyes, rinse them throughly with water then see your doctor. After dyeing your hair, rinse your hair thoroughly until the water runs clear. "

Directions: "Before applying, mix well with a ratio of hair dye (1)/ 60g and developer (2) 60g. Then apply evenly to the hair. After 20 ~ 30 minutes, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, wash your hair with shampoo or soap, and then rinse with lukewarm water. Depending on the length and thickness of hair the amount to use may vary."

This product comes in four shades: 5.0 Golden Brown, 4.0 Deep Brown (the one I have), 3.0 Black Brown, and 2.0 Black

Neatly Packed Goodies

Everything in the Box

Interesting looking comb. You use the brush side to mix the product and the comb to evenly distribute the dye in your hair.

Information Booklet

Do NOT leave the dye in your hair for over 40 minutes.

The Ryo Grey Hair Covering Cream is not a bubble foam type (although I do believe they've recently came out with a bubble foam).  It was my first time working with a cream dye and I was really nervous.

The hair dye (1)/ 60g

The developer (2) / 60g

left - right: Hair dye and Developer in EQUAL portions. This will be tricky for people who aren't using the entirety of both tubes as there are no measuring tools.

Mix it together with the brush side of the comb

After you mix the dye and developer together, you can start applying it to your hair. It looks pretty light after you mix it but the developer will soon change the dye to a darker colour so don't worry.

Since this was the first time I've used hair cream that allows me to control the amount of hair dye and developer to squeeze out, I wasn't sure how much I needed. I started out mixing a third of the tube but it wasn't enough and ended up using the entirely of both tubes.

I am really satisfied with the results. I never knew how awful my hair looked until I saw the BEFORE pictures. As you can see, in the AFTER pictures, my hair color looks incredibly natural. It does look darker in person.

My Thoughts
I really like this product. I was surprised that after the initial rinse, my hair felt pretty normal and less dry than it did when I used the bubble foam dyes.  I followed up on the rinse with the small packet of conditioner provided and left it in for a few minutes before rinsing out. My hair felt soft and smooth afterwards. This product is great for people who want to touch up on roots as there are lids provided for the hair dye and the developer. You can control how much product you want to use instead of using the entirety of the item as in the case of bubble foam dyes.

However, there are a few things I didn't like about it. One was that it did get messy because I couldn't put my hair up. When I use the bubble foam dyes, I could usually push my hair up on top of my head and it would stay there. This is not the case for the dye creams so remember to use the plastic bib provided (I forgot to and thus the different shirt in the AFTER picture).  Applying the cream to the hair was also quite a bit messier than with the bubble hair dyes since the cream dye is runnier than foam. When I was massaging it through my hair, I was afraid there would be areas that I didn't cover so I had to be extra careful.  However, in the end it turned out pretty nicely and I've got even coverage throughout my hair.

Scent: One thing you must know is that even though it doesn't smell like ammonia, this hair cream really smells of ginseng. It's very strong and it's definitely going to bother people who are sensitive to smells. The smell is really similar to the Ryo Anti Hairloss Shampoo, that I've mentioned in my recent empties post, but 10x stronger.

Overall, I highly recommend this product. I think my hair looks and feels even healthier than when I used the bubble foams (which I didn't think was possible). It was relatively easy to use and it has really nice ingredients which I do think makes a big difference from other hair dyes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them below. Thanks for reading!

Skincare and Hair Product Empties #3

Monday, September 7, 2015

Despite it being a while since I last did my empties post, I haven’t actually accumulated many products.  I think besides body care and creams, it’s quite hard to finish many types of cosmetics. As a person who don’t really wear makeup everyday, it’s especially hard for me to finish things like lip sticks and eyeshadows. It’s more likely that I will have thrown them away due to expiration.

Anyhow, moving onto today’s post~

St. Ives Fresh Hydration Lotion
This is the first spray lotion that I’ve purchased. It sprays evenly and lightly. You do need to rub the product into your skin even after spraying or else you might be left with a white streak of lotion. Since it’s in a spray form, there’s less product in this then the ones in the regular pump bottles. However, I’ve purchased both and I have to say that even under the same scent name, they don’t smell the same. Whereas the spray bottle lotion smells sweet and fresh, the pump bottle lotion smells artificial. Another thing to be careful of is that when you are spraying the lotion, it’s very easy over mist and have some lotion end up on the floor – thus making the floor very slippery.

Innisfree Green Tea Mineral Mist (150ml)
I love this facial spray. It has quite a force, it smells good, and it’s pretty moisturizing for a spray. If you intend to use this while wearing makeup, I highly suggest standing as far away from it as you can OR misting the air and catching it with your face because it sprays out quite a lot and can ruin your makeup if you stand too close.

Mamonde Lotus Micro Facial Foam
This is just a mini size tube that I received in the sample kit. It’s a really gentle cleanser that doesn’t remove much. I use it as a follow up after cleansing oil.

Hanyul Rice Essential Skin Emulsion
I did a review on this recently. You can find it here.

Innisfree Eco Science Eye Cream
I think this needs no introduction as I have been using this product for ages. I think this might be my 5th bottle.  For the winter and dryer seasons, it’s awesome but for summer seasons, I think it can feel quite heavy. Nonetheless I love using this at night time. It makes a noticeable difference and it’s still my favorite eye cream. (Reviewed here).

Mise En Scene Perfect Serum
Although this product didn’t make my hair shiny as I’ve hoped, it did make my hair very soft. I like to apply this to the roots of my hair when it’s still 60% damp. My hair absorbs the product pretty well and there's no oily residue left over on my hair after it dries.

Ryoe Herbal Anti-Hairloss Shampoo
It took me a really long time to finish this bottle and that’s because half way through I tried other shampoos before coming back and finishing it. Although I usually really like Ryoe hair products, I found this shampoo to be lacking. Even after consistant usage, I feel like I still loose a considerable amount of hair every time I shower. I still have a smaller bottle of this that came with the set and I will probably do a more indepth review on it soon.

August Favorites

Friday, September 4, 2015

August has been a relatively slow month but stressful month for me but I do have some favourites to share with you. Unlike my usual monthly favourites, this time around I will be including some of my non-beauty favourites as well. Enjoy!

Beauty Favourites

Skinfood Vita Water Drop CC Cream
This CC Cream isn't new to the beauty world and it hasn't received a lot of love either. However, I really enjoyed it. The consistency is light and slightly runny and the coverage is light. It gives me just enough coverage to even out my skin tone while still allowing my skin to breath. It has SPF 35 PA+++ which is perfect for days when I don't want to wear sunscreen.

Clio Touching Apple Cheek #5
Although it looks like you have to twist, you actually just have to pull to take the cap off. I forget this every single time! Sadly, what you see is what you get. The product doesn't twist up.  Salty and savoury food is my guilty pleasure and it bloats up my face and that makes contouring my new best friend.  I've been enjoying this product for its convenience - a few swipes along my jaw bones and a little blending is all it takes.  The color payoff is nice but it's easy to over blend it.

Maybelline Illegal Lengths (Waterproof)
Western mascaras don't usually work that well for me but this one was just awesome. It's been pretty good at holding curl and the fibre extensions really give my eyelashes the length it needs.  Some people say that this is similar to the Maybelline Lash Stilleto but I have to disagree. Although both mascaras have a similar brush and contain fibres, the Lash Stilleto's formula is wetter and provides more volume. As a result, it weighs down my eyelash curl. It also irritates my eyes, something the Illegal Lengths doesn't do.

Origins Spot Remover
Due to being under constant stress, a huge pimple appeared on my face. I applied this twice a day and noticed that the pimple popped on its own after a few days. Usually for large pimples like this, it would take a month or so to clear. I think this product definitely helped speed up the process.

psssst! Instant Dry Shampoo
What's summer without a good dry shampoo? I've featured this before in a previous favourite and I still feel the same way about it.  It absorbs hair oil quickly, thus giving flat hair some volume.

Non-Beauty Favourites

TV Show: Destined to Love You  (Chinese Drama)

Look at Bosco Wong's serious poker face. It's quite hilarious how he's able to maintain it  when all the other squad members are fooling around.

My goodness, Chinese dramas have recently really stepped up their game.  The story is set in the late 1910's Shanghai at a military academy. The main heroine is a circus performer (Joe Chen) who steals the identity of Xiao Han (an instructor). There were so many aspects of this drama that I enjoyed. The rich and vibrant backdrop to the story is amazing and visually stunning. I loved both the full colours that were incorporated into each scene as well as the characters' costumes.  Another thing I love were the characters (besides the villains of course). I suffered from major second lead syndrome in this drama. I think Bosco Wong did a great job portraying the very reserved Shen Wen Tao.  There was also so much love in this drama - not just between the leads but also among the side characters and the good nature bromance amongst they squad members (whom all looked very dashing in their uniforms).  If you're getting tired of Korean dramas, Chinese dramas are a refreshing change! The only problem is that I couldn't find all the episodes fully subbed. I had to watch the later half only partially subbed.

Game: Cookie Run

Cookierun is addictive like many repetitive cellphone games. There are many cookies and they have their own unique skills. You have to jump and dodge obstacles. The longer you run, the more points and coins you can collect. These cookies are the cutest. In the past year, new stages and episodes have been added. However, the overall objective of the game has remained the same - to get out of the oven. If you're just starting out, I highly recommend you to look for the secret codes online to get free crystals.  You need a Line account to play.
